Most problems are one of the six below. If yours is not, or you have an idea to make it better, the suggestion box is at the bottom.
Two other ways in: click into any text box and press Alt+Shift+P to fix the whole box, or click the toolbar icon to get a paste box that is already filled with whatever you last copied.
That is normal the first time after a while. Chrome loads its language model into memory, which takes about ten seconds. After that it answers in a second or two. The extension keeps the model loaded for 15 minutes after each polish so the wait only happens once. You can turn that off in the options if you would rather free the memory.
Chrome downloads its on-device model once, about 4 GB. Open the extension's options (right click the toolbar icon, then Options) and press Download the model now. Leave Chrome open until it finishes.
Chrome's own rules for the on-device model are:
If you just freed up space, you must quit Chrome completely and reopen it: Chrome menu, then Exit. Closing the window is not enough, Chrome only re-checks the disk on a real restart.
If your computer cannot run the on-device model at all, the options page lets you paste your own Google AI Studio or Anthropic API key instead. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you add one.
Some pages will not let an extension edit their text box. When that happens the polished text is copied for you, and a note in the corner says so. Click into the box, select what you wanted replaced, and paste.
Type chrome://extensions/shortcuts into the address bar and set your own.
Email thefinwalls@gmail.com and say what you selected, what site you were on, and what the note in the corner said. Or leave a message on the Support tab of the Chrome Web Store listing.
Tell us what to improve. A real person reads every one. Your name and email are optional, but add your email if you want a reply.
The extension is free and stays free. If it has saved you a few times, you can buy me a coffee (yes, we are the Daycare Sisters).
